Whenever any ordinance or resolution <strong>of</strong> this <strong>City</strong> designates any one-way street or alley, the Transportation<br />

Engineer shall place and maintain signs giving notice there<strong>of</strong>, and no such regulations shall be effective unless such<br />

signs are in place. It is hereby declared that the direction <strong>of</strong> travel shall be as set forth on those streets or parts <strong>of</strong><br />

streets designated in a schedule as set forth in Section 10.60.030. Signs indicating the direction <strong>of</strong> lawful traffic<br />

movement shall be placed at every intersection where movement <strong>of</strong> traffic in the opposite direction is prohibited, and<br />

it shall be unlawful for any person to drive or operate a vehicle in a direction on any <strong>of</strong> those streets, except as<br />

10.32.030 Authority to Designate Portions <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>City</strong> Property for Pedestrian<br />

Traffic.<br />

10.32.010 Crosswalks - Transportation Engineer to Designate, Establish and Maintain.<br />

(a) The Transportation Engineer shall establish, designate and maintain crosswalks, by appropriate devices,<br />

marks or lines upon the surface <strong>of</strong> the roadway, where he determines that there is a particular hazard to pedestrians<br />

crossing the roadway subject to the limitation contained in (b) <strong>of</strong> this section.<br />

(b) Other than crosswalks at intersections, no crosswalk shall be established in any block which is less than four<br />

hundred feet (400') in length. Elsewhere not more than one (1) additional crosswalk shall be established in any one<br />

(1) block and such crosswalk shall be located as nearly as practicable at midblock.<br />

(c) The Transportation Engineer may place signs at or adjacent to an intersection in respect to any crosswalk<br />

directing that pedestrians shall not cross in the crosswalk so indicated. (Ord. 3803, 1975; Ord. 2713 §1(part), 1959;<br />

10.32.020 Crossing in Central Traffic District.<br />

No pedestrian shall cross a roadway other than at a crosswalk in the Central Traffic District or in any business<br />

district. (Ord. 2713 §1(part), 1959; prior <strong>Code</strong> §31.52.)<br />

10.32.030 Authority to Designate Portions <strong>of</strong> <strong>City</strong> Property for Pedestrian Traffic.<br />

Upon request <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> commission or department having jurisdiction over a particular parcel <strong>of</strong> <strong>City</strong> property,<br />

the Chief <strong>of</strong> Police may designate portions <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> property for pedestrian traffic, and may prohibit such uses <strong>of</strong><br />

the property as are deemed inconsistent with pedestrian traffic. When areas have been so designated by the Chief <strong>of</strong><br />

Police, the <strong>City</strong> Transportation Engineer shall cause signs to be erected giving notice <strong>of</strong> such designation and<br />

enumerating those uses <strong>of</strong> the property which are prohibited. When areas have been so designated and appropriate<br />

signs erected, it shall be unlawful for any person to use such area in the manner prohibited. (Ord. 3217 §1, 1967.)<br />
