Chapter 5: Talking with Your Hands
103
That’s a Wrap
Wrapping up a chapter on hand and arm gestures brings to
mind the way directors wrap up a TV show—with the hand
moving horizontally across the neck, for example, to signal
“cut,” or perhaps the gesture of the thumb and forefingers
pulling away from each other as a sign to “stretch.” They’re
familiar signals that send quick, well-understood messages.
Not so well understood are many of the hand signals I’ve
described in this chapter, and that is why I encourage you
to pay attention to them. You’ll find that what people do
with their hands tells you a lot more than they realize they’re
telling you. Then do everything you can to make what they
have “said” work for you.
