Reading the<br />

Whole <strong>Body</strong><br />

KINESICS IS THE TERM th<strong>at</strong> refers to body movements<br />

<strong>at</strong>tention to a variety <strong>of</strong> body movements—such as posture,<br />

leanings, <strong>and</strong> bre<strong>at</strong>hing p<strong>at</strong>terns—<strong>and</strong> noticing when someone<br />

makes a sudden transition from one position to another,<br />

you can get a good idea <strong>of</strong> the other person’s shifting mood<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>at</strong>titude. In this chapter you’ll see how body movements<br />

send their unique messages. You’ll also learn why mirroring—<br />
