Card 58 Purple 8 Computer curse 1 2 3 4 5 David tore away the box around the computer and helped his dad to set it up. When it was switched on, David browsed through the programs and documents on the computer. ‘Open at your own peril!’ David read on one of the files. He opened the document and a skull appeared on the screen. Ghostly words floated across the monitor: ‘The curse is set. The warning given. Beware all users. Danger lurks’. ‘Someone is playing a very bad joke’, thought David as he stared at the screen. ‘Woosh!’ The sound echoed in his ears. He blinked and opened his eyes. ‘Where am I?’ he asked. He saw coloured wires and plastic and metal streets and lanes. ‘If I didn’t know better, I’d think I was actually inside the computer’, he thought. He ran down the first street and up the next. David could feel prickling along the back of his neck. ‘Danger lurks’, he thought. He bolted as fast as he could. He ran until he couldn’t run any further. ‘I’ve got to think of something. If this was a computer virus or corrupt program, what would I do?’ he thought.
