Grey 9 How do you make a balloon magic? Read the instructions below and you will find out how to give balloons special powers that make them seem magical! You will need: • two different coloured balloons • a sheet of coloured paper torn into small pieces • a spoon • some sugar Step 1 Blow up the balloons. Tie the end of each balloon with a firm knot. Step 3 Scatter the pieces of coloured paper over a desk. Hold a balloon just above the torn pieces of paper. They will lift up and stick to the balloon! Step 2 Rub each balloon hard against your shirt or jumper. The trick works best if you are wearing something made from wool. Step 4 Sprinkle a spoonful of sugar over a desk. Hold the other balloon just above the sugar. It too will lift up and stick to the balloon! ©R.I.C. Publications Low Resolution Images Display Copy The balloons became ‘magic’ when you rubbed them against your clothes. The rubbing gave the balloons what we call ‘a charge of static electricity’.
