The real Pinocchio
If you think that the real Pinocchio is a cute
cartoon character, you are very much
mistaken! The original puppet from The
adventures of Pinocchio, written by Carlo
Collodi almost 130 years ago, is quite a
horrible little boy. He acts in such a dreadful
way that even quite naughty children would
be shocked by his behaviour.
Here is just a taste of the real Pinocchio’s
character. You’ll have to read the original story
to find out the rest!
His father, Geppetto, soon realises what a
naughty puppet boy he has made. As soon as
his legs and feet are carved, Pinocchio gives
him a big kick and runs away. Poor Geppetto is
thrown in jail because Pinocchio tells the police
that Geppetto has been cruel to him.
Meanwhile, Pinocchio returns home.
The talking cricket who has lived with
Geppetto for 100 years tells Pinocchio that
boys who tell lies turn into donkeys. This makes
Pinocchio very angry and he throws a hammer
at the cricket, killing it stone-dead.

By now, Pinocchio is very tired and he falls
asleep by the fire. When he wakes up, he
realises that his feet have burned away. At that
moment, Geppetto walks through the door. He
immediately makes new feet for Pinocchio who
promises to be good for ever.

Pinocchio still meets the characters from the
movie and many others who all help him to be
wicked. He has the ghost of the talking cricket and
a fairy with turquoise hair to help him to be good.
