Does a huntsman hunt men?
Does a huntsman hunt men?
Huntsman spiders are
found in many parts of the
world. They can be found in
bushland, gardens, garden
sheds and sometimes in
houses, but prefer to live in
woody places, like under the
bark on trees.
Huntsman spiders can be
quite large, growing up to
15 cm wide from leg to leg.
They are brown or grey in
colour. They have crab-like legs
that bend forwards. This means
they can move sideways quite
fast. Their front two pairs of legs
are usually much longer than
their back legs. They often have
a flattened body, which is useful
for crawling underneath bark
and into other hiding places.
These spiders can walk on walls
and even on ceilings. They can
move very quickly. They use their
speed to hunt and catch insects to
eat. Huntsman spiders do not build webs.

Even though their name makes you think they might hunt people,
they don’t! Huntsman spiders are harmless to humans, but they might
bite to protect themselves. While the bite is harmless, it can still be quite
painful.
If you see a huntsman, it’s probably best just to leave it alone. It is not
dangerous and might even help get rid of harmful insects in your
garden and home.
