Ryan and Cerys were
in the attic at the top of
Grandpa Joe’s house.
There were cobwebs
everywhere and it was
stuffy and very dusty.
‘This is creepy’,
shuddered Ryan. ‘Let’s go
back downstairs.’
Treasure trove
‘Hang on a minute. Let’s
just look in there’, said Cerys as she noticed a large toy chest under the
window.
As the lid creaked open, the two children gasped in amazement. The
chest was full of old metal train track and engines.
‘Wow! This is the real stuff!’ shrieked Cerys, who was a real engine expert
and model railway fan.
‘Let’s make a space and lay it all out’, cried Ryan eagerly as he took a
handful of track in one hand and an engine in the other. Together, the
two children worked until the last piece was taken from the chest.
A sniffing sound made them turn quickly. Grandpa Joe was standing
in the doorway. His eyes were full of tears and his voice croaked as he
spoke.

‘No-one has touched that track in over 30 years … not since …, Joe’s
voice trailed away.
‘Sorry, Grandpa,' said Ryan softly, ’we should have asked first’.
‘No lad. Don’t worry. It’s good to see it being used again. Harry would
smile if he could see it … Now, let’s see if we can get those creaky old
engines moving!’
‘Grandpa,’ asked Cerys, ‘who’s Harry?’
