Silver 5 1 2 3 4 5 6 Mum and Dad love the huge bush at the bottom of our garden because it is a giant mass of leaves and beautiful purple flowers. I love it because inside it is a magnificent web of thick, gnarled branches that make up my very own forest den! It protects me from the heat of the sun. When it rains, the dense canopy of leaves keeps me dry. As I crawl inside, it is cool and cosy. I close my eyes and travel from the real world to the land of my imagination. In one corner of my den is a shallow pit. I call it the dragon’s lair. On cool days, I spar with my secret speckled dragon who lives in a hole in the pit. His name is Braith. He teaches me clever fighting moves so I can protect myself from enemies. High in the roof of my den, Eden, the golden eagle, has built a nest for her brood of eaglets. She takes me for thrilling roller-coaster rides on her back. I cling to the feathers of her neck while she swoops and soars through my forest. I cry out in delight as the wind whistles through my hair and rushes past my cheeks. ©R.I.C. He teaches me how to use the fruits of my forest for spectacular spells to turn my enemies into frogs, bats and rats. As I crawl out of my den, the dragon scales, eagle feathers and musty smell of forest fruits cling to my clothes, reminding me that the land of my imagination is as real as the real world. R.I.C.
