accrediting body. Many accrediting agencies in the Allied Health fields require faculty to
hold state licensure in order to maintain teaching credentials within the programs.
All workloads for full-time faculty are determined as a collaboration between the faculty
and their Department Chair, and are guided by the standards outlined in the CBA and
SJDs. The CBA is negotiated every other year between the CCSNH Administration and the
CCSNH faculty, represented by the New Hampshire Higher Education Union/IBEW
(NHHEU/IBEW) and the CCSNH Administration. RVCC is represented on the faculty
bargaining team by one member of the full-time faculty. SJDs are created at the time of
hire, and updated as necessary, in collaboration with program faculty and Department
Chairs, the VPAA, and the Human Resource department. The VPAA has final approval of
all full-time faculty workloads. Per the CBA, full-time faculty workloads are assigned to
be a balance of Instructional Workload, to make up no greater than 85% of faculty time
and include items such as instructional preparation, teaching, grading, assisting students
and advising. The balance of faculty time should be made up of Non-Instructional
Workload; no greater than 30% of which should be dedicated to
Institutional/CCSNH/Student and Community Service including committee work,
mentoring, recruiting and retention, accreditation and administrative duties; and
Professional Growth and Development which should make up no greater than 5% of
faculty time.
All full-time faculty are required to carry a workload of 15-18 contact hours per semester,
or its equivalent in a pro-rated format to meet the required 30-36 contact hours for the
year. An academic year for full-time faculty is counted as a fall and subsequent spring
semester. The CBA allows for faculty to switch the summer semester for one of the other
semesters, but no faculty at RVCC do this. All faculty work a fall and spring semester
schedule. The College follows the CCSNH standard definition of a contact hour (Faculty
CBA Article X.1.1 and Adjunct Faculty CBA 9E) in determining workload and faculty are
credited with a contact hour for every 50 minutes of face to face time they spend with
students.
The VPAA, in conjunction with the faculty and Department Chair, may elect to decrease the
required contact hours for full-time faculty members who assume additional administrative
duties or special projects for the College. Per the CBA, the VPAA issues a letter of work
load assignment no later than May 15 th and November 15 th each year stating the
instructional assignments for the subsequent fall or spring semesters and the continuing
non-instructional responsibilities. In each case, the letter states the course and numbers of
sections expected to be taught in the following academic semester.
Adjunct faculty negotiate a separate Collective Bargaining Agreement and are represented
by the State Employee’s Association of NH Inc. (SEIU Local 1984/SEA). According to their
Collective Bargaining Agreement, adjunct faculty are responsible for teaching, following all
applicable policies and procedures, being available for student consultation, attending
required faculty and college meetings, and submission of grades by the deadline. Adjunct
appointment letters are sent at least two weeks before the start of a semester. Adjuncts
may teach a maximum of 12 credit hours/semester, which includes their teaching
responsibilities among all CCSNH colleges. Appointment letters include the courses to be
taught, class/lab hours, and room assignments.
