How has the market changed in the UK after Brexit? I will speak only from my company’s experience, which will differ from other consultants, suppliers, and installers. Our sales are predominantly software; we have been trading internationally, within and outside the EU, for over 25 years. Brexit caused a minor inconvenience as we had to adjust our administrative processes for EU customers. We have since saved that administrative time as we no longer need to complete EC Sales Returns. When we receive or deliver physical goods to the EU, it does take a bit longer and costs a bit more. Disappointingly, it sometimes takes us longer to get something delivered to the EU than to Australasia; this problem is rooted in politics. There are positive signs that trust is being rebuilt between the UK Government and the EU; as businesses, we should encourage the best cooperation for the best interests of us all. What do you think about the ISO norm 8100, especially 8100-32? I think 8100-32 is another step forward in cooperation to help us reach a common understanding of lift (elevator) traffic analysis and simulation. This discussion began for me in the 1980s when the then-experts told me what they thought was the ʻcorrectʼ way to do traffic analysis. To reflect the diverse assertions, I built Elevate with many different options so that everyone could do what was right for them. To improve our common understanding, beginning in 2007, I initiated (under the CIBSE Lifts Group) a series of international ‘Traffic Analysis & Simulation Open Forum’ meetings.
