In Germany, Galeria Kaufhof generated sales of €3.1 billion<br />
in 2011 – a decline of 4.4 percent compared with the previous<br />
year. like-for-like sales fell by 3.9 percent. The atypical<br />
weather had a distinctly negative impact on sales of seasonal<br />
merchandise. Following a disappointing start of the Christmas<br />
business, hardware sales ended the year satisfactorily,<br />
but could not offset weak textile sales. In addition, Galeria<br />
Kaufhof started to phase out sales of the low-margin technical<br />
assortment in order to make more profitable use of the<br />

items amounted to €643 million, a decline of €55 million<br />
that is due largely to lower earnings from active portfolio<br />
management as well as to lower net rental income due to<br />
