5.2.4 Payments to Merchants<br />

Rule 5.2.4 of Chapter 5, “Merchants,” is modified to include the following:<br />

Each Customer that acquires Transactions from Canadian Merchants must have<br />

a deposit account for each Merchant from which it acquires such Transactions,<br />

and the proceeds of such Transactions must be deposited by the Customer<br />

in such Merchant’s deposit account.<br />

5.12 Discounts or Other Benefits at the Point of Interaction<br />

The use of an Affinity Card Program or Co-Brand Card Program Card to activate<br />

a discount or other benefit at the POI that is not available on similar purchases<br />

with the use of any other Card is permitted for Transactions effected wholly<br />

within the Region. The determination of whether any such discount or other<br />

POI benefit practice complies with the Standards is at the sole discretion of<br />

the Corporation’s staff.<br />

7.2 Program Service >><br />

Rule 7.2 of Chapter 7, “Service Providers,” is modified to include the following:<br />

A Canada region Customer that performs services to effect the payment of<br />

an outstanding balance on a Card account issued by another Canada region<br />

Customer for or on behalf of such Customer's Cardholder is deemed not to be a<br />

Service Provider of such Customer.<br />

8.4 Requirements for Specific Transaction Types<br />

8.4.1 Chip Transactions and Acceptance at Hybrid POS Terminals<br />

Rule 8.4.1 of Chapter 8, “Sales Transactions and Cash Disbursements” is<br />

modified to include the following:<br />

For purposes of these <strong>Rules</strong>, “EMV chip-compliant” means operating any chip<br />

device including Cards, ATMs, POI Terminals, electronic cash registers (ECRs),<br />

and PIN pads that are in accordance fully with the Standards relative to EMV<br />

standards; and “chip/PIN-compliant” means issuing PIN-preferring Chip Cards<br />

or operating PIN-capable Hybrid POS Terminals as such terms are defined in<br />

Rule 8.4.1 in Chapter 8 of this manual.<br />

1. Chip Liability Shift. The liability for Canada intraregional counterfeit<br />

Transactions in which one Customer (either the Issuer or the Acquirer) is not<br />
