Organization of this Section<br />

The <strong>Rules</strong> in this Section 11a are variances and additions to the “global” <strong>Rules</strong><br />

that apply to:<br />

1. Cards issued in the Canada Region and presented for payment in the<br />

Canada Region;<br />

2. Transactions that take place in the Canada Region; and<br />

3. Merchants and Acquirers of those Transactions.<br />

Customers and Merchants must continue to comply with the global <strong>Rules</strong> with<br />

respect to Cards (as defined in the global <strong>Rules</strong>) issued by Customers outside<br />

of the Canada Region and presented for payment at Merchant locations in the<br />

Canada Region, unless otherwise agreed by the Corporation.<br />

Definitions<br />

Solely for purposes of <strong>Rules</strong> in this Section 11a, the following terms have the<br />

meanings set forth below:<br />

1. “Card” shall mean a card issued by a Customer pursuant to License and in<br />

accordance with the Standards that provides access to a credit and debit<br />

<strong>MasterCard</strong> account. Unless otherwise stated herein, this definition does not<br />

include an Access Device or a Mobile Payment Device.<br />

2. “Cardholder” shall mean the authorized user of a Card issued by a Customer.<br />

3. “Debit <strong>MasterCard</strong> Card” or “Debit Card” shall mean any Card issued in<br />

the Region, by a Regional Customer, that when presented for payment in<br />

Canada, accesses, debits, holds, or settles funds from a consumer’s demand<br />

deposit account.<br />

4. “Other Card” shall mean any Card that is not defined as a “Debit Card”<br />

or “Debit <strong>MasterCard</strong> Card.”<br />

5. “Premium Card” shall mean a Card that is issued in the Region by a<br />

Regional Customer to a well-defined class of Cardholders in accordance<br />

with <strong>MasterCard</strong> requirements and specification for same.<br />

6. “Transaction” shall mean the sale of goods or services by a Merchant to a<br />

Cardholder pursuant to acceptance of a Card by the Merchant.<br />

2.6 Obligation to Issue Cards<br />

Rule 2.6 of Chapter 2, “Licensing and Licensed Activities,” is modified to include<br />

the following:<br />
