Since the twentieth century many critics have reflected on Dodgson’s<br />

photographs of children with disdain and disgust in terms of the images<br />

themselves and what they perceive to have been paedophilic behaviour on<br />

his part. However, Stephanie Lovett Stoffel, in her biography of the author<br />

and artist, disagrees with this widely held opinion and has defended<br />

Dodgson’s practice, stating that:<br />
