Besides, individual BtubAJB filaments displayed treadmilling , which is the<br />
growth at one end and the shortening at the 0ther end at the same rate. Also,<br />
individual filaments showed dynamic instability, which is the main microtubule<br />
assembly mechanism and consists of changes between growing and shrinking<br />
phases at microtubule end. The high Prosthecobacter intracellular potassium<br />
concentration suggests that the behavior of BtubA/B filaments would be a fast<br />
assembly from a trimeric or tetrameric nucleus, to induce filaments bundles that<br />
grows \ogitudinally within the ce\1. This means that the dynamic instability<br />
mechanism would not be operative, because lateral interactions stabilize the<br />
filaments, and only the treadmlilling would allow the reorganization of BtubAIB<br />
filaments within (inside) the cell. These results support the hypothesis that<br />
BtubAIB bundles probably plays a structural support in Prosthecobacter that<br />
could contribute to the elongated shape of the cells.<br />
