A Meta dos Zero Acidentes é algo a que ambicionamos, que nos motiva e cujo caminhotemos percorrido. Este artigo pretende descrever resumidamente este percurso e mostrar algumas dasrazões que o podem explicar. Desde a sua fundação, nas margens do rio Brandywine, em Wilmington,Delaware, EUA, que a Segurança é uma necessidade vital da DuPont. O seu fundador, Eleuthère Irénéedu Pont, percebeu muito rapidamente que a Segurança, na indústria de produção de pólvora negra, eracondição essencial para a sua sobrevivência. E desde muito cedo as primeiras regras de Segurançaforam escritas, definindo desde logo a nossa matriz diferenciadora. Uma das primeiras regras, que definiaclaramente a Segurança como responsabilidade da linha hierárquica, era profundamente inovadora naaltura. Hoje, apesar de muito propalada, continua a ser pouco utilizada no dia a dia das organizações. NaDuPont, esta é uma das nossas marcas diferenciadoras. A perseverança necessária ao trabalho emSegurança levou-nos a considerar a Segurança um dos nossos valores. Hoje, tudo o que fazemos ésubmetido ao juízo dos nossos valores e dos nossos 10 princípios que norteiam a Gestão da Segurança.Detalharemos um pouco mais no artigo esses 10 princípios. Os nossos 4 valores e os nossos 10princípios traduzem-se, no dia a dia, num sistema de gestão, focado no comportamento humano, e quevisa a evolução cultural da organização até uma cultura organizacional e de Segurança propicia a atingiros Zero Acidentes. Esta cultura tem um conjunto de características: é uma cultura de antecipação,interdependente e baseada em equipas. The Goal of ZeroAccidents is something that we aspire to, which motivates us and that was the path we always followed.This paper aims to briefly describe this path and show some of the reasons that can explain it. Since itsfoundation on the banks of the Brandywine River in Wilmington, Delaware, USA, safety is a vital need forDuPont. Its founder, Eleuthère Irénée du Pont, realized very quickly that safety in the black powderproduction industry was an essential prerequisite for their survival. And since very early, the first safetyrules were written, defining our first differential matrix. One of the first rules, that clearly defined the linemanagement responsibility for Safety, was highly innovative at the time. Today, despite much advertising,it remains little used in the daily practice of organizations. At DuPont, this is something that differentiate us.The perseverance required to work in safety has led us to consider safety as one of our core values.Today, everything we do is subject to assessment of our core values and to our 10 principles that guidethe safety management. We intend to detail a little bit more in the paper those 10 principles.Our 4 core values and our 10 safety principles translates, on a daily basis, in a safety managementsystem, focused on human behaviour, and that aims the cultural evolution of the organizations, to anorganizational and safety culture adequate to achieve the Zero Accidents. This culture has a set ofcharacteristics: it is a culture of anticipation, is interdependent and is based on teams. As LMERT‟s não são um “mal” que afecta apenas os trabalhadores, mas também acometeempresas e todo o meio envolvente. O aumento deste tipo de patologia no meio laboral, os custosassociados e o sentimento de insatisfação faz deste tema importante e essencial de uma análise maiscuidada, sem esquecer obviamente de que estas se encontram contempladas na legislação nacional.A compreensão de como e porquê do seu desenvolvimento (causas e potenciadores) é urgente, bemcomo a forma de actuação perante complexa temática. Assim, em tempos de crise é fundamental que asempresas conheçam as “armas” de defesa com as quais podem munir-se, por forma a minimizarsituações constrangedoras e promover o bem-estar e saúde dos trabalhadores e, consequentemente, dasempresas. The increase in this type of pathology in the workplace, the associated costsand the workers‟ dissatisfaction makes this issue an important and essential point, with the need for amore careful analysis, not forgetting of course that these are previewed in national legislation.Understanding how and why this problem appear (and the potential causes) is urgent, and also how todeal with this complex issue. Thus, in times of crisis it is crucial that companies know how to defendthemselves in order to minimize inadequate situations and to promote the workers‟ welfare and health andtherefore of the companies.
