All workers who use their hands and wrists repetiti<strong>ve</strong>ly are at risk for<br />

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), particularly if they ha<strong>ve</strong> factors or<br />

medical conditions that make them susceptible. Repetiti<strong>ve</strong> typing and<br />

key entry is highly associated with missing work due to CTS.<br />

Although there are statistical data about the number of people<br />

suffering from CTS and the associated reasons of it on the world,<br />

there is no data reflecting the situation in the Turkish Republic of<br />

Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The purpose of this study was to in<strong>ve</strong>stigate<br />

the situation in TRNC in order to obtain a statistical basis for 'Carpal<br />

Tunnel Syndrome Facts of TRNC for Bank Tellers'. As a result of the<br />

literature sur<strong>ve</strong>y, a questionnaire is prepared and distributed to 180<br />

bank tellers working in different banks and the branches of these<br />

banks in fi<strong>ve</strong> cities of TRNC.<br />

In addition to the statistical analysis of the collected data, working<br />

conditions of the bank tellers are obser<strong>ve</strong>d and evaluated according to<br />

anthropometric principles. Finally, according to the results of these<br />

analyses and evaluations, 'Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Facts of TRNC for<br />

Bank Tellers' are obtained and better working conditions are<br />

suggested to minimize CTS-related absenteeism from work.<br />

An Analysis of Musculoskeletal Disorders Among Dentists in<br />

the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus<br />

In the recent years, musculoskeletal disorders ha<strong>ve</strong> become<br />

increasingly common worldwide. A significant number of dentists are<br />

complaining about having musculoskeletal pain and they are under a<br />

risk of de<strong>ve</strong>loping serious musculoskeletal disorders.<br />

There are a number of studies in<strong>ve</strong>stigating associations between<br />

personal characteristics, physical load, psychosocial factors and<br />

general health status with complaints of back, neck, shoulder, hand<br />

and wrist, and also associations between work-related risk factors and<br />

musculoskeletal complaints. Although these studies are common<br />

world-wide, there is no such research in the Turkish Republic of<br />

Northern Cyprus (TRNC), where there are 140 registered dentists.<br />
