YÖNEYLEM ARAÞTIRMASI VE ENDÜSTRÝ MÜHENDÝSLÝGI 30. ULUSAL KONGRESÝ
Owing to physical limitations, generally these devices could only be
used by stylus keyboards, which can be typed by stylus, single finger
and so on.
In this study, data entry by stylus keyboards is analyzed from
ergonomics view. Two stylus keyboard layouts are designed: (1)
classical longitudinal-shaped as QWERTY, and (2) square-shaped. For
layout optimization, a Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP) model is
formed and solved by a newly developed decomposition-based and
deterministic heuristic.
Newly designed two stylus keyboard layouts are compared with
currently in use layouts for Turkish; F and Turkish Q layouts. It is
concluded that new generated longitudinal and square layouts have
higher typing speeds and average distance per digraph values
compared with standard QWERTY and F layouts.
An Ergonomics Approach for the Design of 19-Liter Drinking
Water Containers
Girne, TRNC
In the recent years, the water distributed by the municipalities in the
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (T.R.N.C.) is recorded to be
unhealthy for drinking. As a result, people started to purchase
drinking water from water suppliers who provide and sell drinking
water in 19-liter containers. As the usage of these containers is
increased, the complaints from the usage are also increased.
Customers started to raise complaints about the discomfort they were
experiencing while lifting and carrying the containers. Especially for
the elderly and women customers, the level of discomfort was so high
and unbearable.
In this study, a questionnaire is designed and applied to 200 randomly
selected 19-liter drinking water container users, in the five main cities
of TRNC, namely, Lefkoþa, Girne, Güzelyurt, Gazi Magosa and Ýskele.
The collected data regarding the issues related with discomfort in
handling and usage of the 19-liter drinking water containers are then
analyzed and the common problems of the customers are identified.
Using the results of the analysis of the questionnaire, anthropometric
principles and lifting standards, a better design to minimize the level
of discomfort of usage for the 19-liter drinking water containers is
suggested.
