In 1958 Wagner and Whitin published their seminal paper on the
dynamic lot size model. It is considered one of the most well-known
and most influential papers in the operations research literature. In
the past five decades, many extensions of the original model have
been studied and different solution approaches to the various models
have been proposed. These typically are dynamic programming,
heuristic or integer programming approaches. In this tutorial we give
an overview of some of the most interesting developments in more
than half a century of dynamic lot sizing research, with special focus
on relatively recent results.
