The mission process is described by a Markov process and the deterioration of the system is described by a finite state Markov process whose parameters depend on the mission process. We discuss several performance measures, including mission reliability, phase reliability as well as mean time to failure and availability. Explicit computational formulas are derived and an illustration is provided. We also show how our model can be applied to any coherent system with independent and exponentially distributed component lifetimes. 320

The objective is to maximize the collection of blood donations while keeping the associated logistics costs low. A transporter vehicle transfers the blood collected at different locations by the collector vehicles to a regional center at the end of each day. Thus the model involves both a VRP component to determine the routes of the collector vehicles and an integrated TSP for the daily routes of the transporter vehicle. The VRP also has a time dimension due to the possible stay-overs of the collector vehicles at certain locations. The purpose of our study is to develop alternative mathematical models to solve the problem and to perform computational experimentation to compare their performance and also if the computational requirements for solving realistic instances were formidable to develop heuristic approaches. The exact and heuristic approaches are tested with real data for the city of Ankara.
