Modul 4: Masteropgave<br />

Politically, globalization and ge<strong>og</strong>raphical mobility are focused as an instrument to<br />

help Europe to be the most dynamic and competitive, knowledge-based economy<br />

in the world. The European Commission has launched the Europe 2020 strategy,<br />

of which one goal is about education of high quality and greater mobility.<br />

This master project is intended as a contribution to the development of guidance<br />

for the exchange and mobility in vocational education. It contains an empirical<br />

study whose theory is grounded in the hermeneutic tradition. Using two<br />

questionnaire surveys and a focus group interview, I studied the reflections of the<br />

students at the basic level taking part in foreign exchange.<br />

The study has shown that dial<strong>og</strong>ue, putting into perspective, information and<br />

encouragement are important themes in support of young people’s decision<br />

making the relationship and interaction with stakeholders are the basis t<strong>og</strong>ether<br />

with the community.<br />

Large variations are seen in students' acquisition of personal competences:<br />

changing, learning, relationship and skills. All 4 students had in their own way a<br />

good outcome. All students have gained an international interest and are ready to<br />

repeat a stay abroad. Through the investigation, it turns out that the students<br />

create some close relationships with the counselors and the mates from their<br />

preparatory class, it is in the class their international interests are discussed.<br />

As dissemination, I suggest that the individual counseling offers:<br />

- An early individual counseling interview<br />

- Open invitation for individual interviews<br />

- Guidance on the distance during the exchange<br />

To counsel in community offers:<br />

- Working with students to develop a framework for content in the counseling<br />

- Proposals to be discussed<br />

- Activity based content eg own descriptions with pictures or video<br />

recordings, for companies<br />

- Presentation of the surroundings such as the Danish education<br />

- General issues based on students' wishes<br />

I can conclude that the exchange has had the intended effect: to contribute to<br />

increased interest in international activities for students in vocational education.<br />

Survey results will be included in the development of 2 projects funded by the<br />

Ministry of Education in Denmark and the European Union with an intention to<br />

contribute to the discussion of exchange for vocational students.<br />

The development of practices is to develop a framework for evaluation and capture<br />

of gather knowledge and experience, the first step will be to work through and<br />

improve the questionnaire in relation to its end user, students and foreign partners.<br />

Then it would be interesting to look at the development of focus group interviews<br />

as a method to group and community.<br />
