Der ivorische Musiker Aly Keïta ist ein Großmeister des
Balafons. Zusammen mit dem in Kamerun geborenen
Schweizer Schlagzeuger Lucas Niggli mischt Keïta das
traditionelle afrikanische Repertoire mit westlichem Jazz
und Improvisation: »brotherhood of vibes and grooves«.

Together with the Cameroon-born Swiss percussionist
Lucas Niggli, Keïta blends the traditional African repertoire
with Western jazz and improvisation in a »brotherhood
of vibes and grooves«.

Mit seinem kraftvollen und komplexen Spiel beeinflusst
der panamaisch-US-amerikanische Drummer seit einem
halben Jahrhundert wie kaum ein anderer die Entwicklung
der Jazz- und Fusion-Szene. Er schrieb Jazz-Rock-
Geschichte mit seiner ersten Soloplatte Spectrum und
arbeitete im Lauf seiner Karriere mit Größen wie George
Duke, Micheal Brecker oder Peter Gabriel. Nun ist die
trommelnde Legende zu Gast bei der Ruhrtriennale.
With his powerful and complex playing, the US-Panamanian
drummer has had an almost unparalleled influence
on the development of the jazz and fusion scene for half
a century. He created jazz rock history with his first solo
record Spectrum and over the course of his career has
worked with greats such as George Duke, Michael Brecker
and Peter Gabriel. Now this drum legend is a guest of the
Ruhrtriennale.
OLGA NEUWIRTH: CORONATION IV
Als Antwort auf die Konzertverbote während der Corona-
Pandemie komponierte die österreichische Komponistin
und Ernst von Siemens Musikpreisträgerin Olga Neuwirth,
deren Musiktheater Bählamms Fest bei der Ruhrtriennale
2021 zu erleben war, ihren vielstündigen Zyklus coronAtion,
eine immersive, hypnotische Raummusik. Zum nächtlichen
Ausklang des Schlagzeugmarathons im Foyer spielt Lucas
Niggli aus dem vierten Teil des Zyklus.
As a response to the concert ban during the coronavirus
pandemic, the Austrian composer and Siemens
Music Prize-winner Olga Neuwirth, whose opera Bählamms
Fest was presented at Ruhrtriennale 2021, created with
coronAtion a cycle of several hours, an immersive, hypnotic
spatial music. As a late-night finale to the percussion
marathon, Lucas Niggli will play sections from Part
Four of the cycle in the foyer.

OLLI HOLLAND: N.E.W.S. // N.O.W.S.
Während des gesamten Marathons ist auf PACT Zollverein
eine Klanginstallation von Olli Holland zu erleben: Der
Rhythmus von Schlagzeilen weltweiter Radionachrichten
überträgt sich in N.E.W.S. // N.O.W.S. synchron auf vier
alte Marschtrommeln und setzt damit das Schlagzeug in
direkten Bezug zum gesprochenen Wort.
During the entire marathon, a sound installation by Olli
Holland can be experienced, in which the rhythm of headlines
from worldwide radio news is directly transferred to
four marching drums and thus places the percussion in
direct relation to the spoken word
