assigned specific steps to<br />

observe during the role<br />

play.<br />

Model the skill: Follow the<br />

steps of the skill exactly as<br />

you expect the group<br />

members to use them. It is<br />

imperative that facilitators<br />

rehearse the modeling<br />

display be<strong>for</strong>e class begins.<br />

Be sure to point to your<br />

head and talk aloud when<br />

per<strong>for</strong>ming thinking steps<br />

(steps 1, 2, and 3).<br />

As you model the steps,<br />

exaggerate the qualities of<br />

each. Model alternative<br />

thinking. For example, in<br />

step 2, identify at least<br />

three ways you could<br />

apologize: You might say<br />

sorry directly to the person;<br />

write a note; call the person<br />

on the phone; send flowers;<br />

offer to make it up to the<br />
