Tidal dissipation: The loss of energy from a planetary body’s orbit, typically depositing energy within the body as heat. TNO: Trans-Neptune Object; another name for a Kuiper belt object. TPS: Thermal Protection System. Trace gas: A gas which makes up less than 1% by volume of planets’ atmosphere. Transit: The passage of a astronomical object across the face of one of larger angular diameter. TRL: Technology Readiness Level. Trojan asteroids: Asteroids located near the two stable Lagrangian points of Jupiter’s orbit (60° preceding and following the planet). TSIP: Telescope System Instrumentation Program.
