4-36. When the DRT receives a security mission, its AO is usually identified by lateral boundaries with a<br />

FLOT or LOA (PL BIRD) and a rear boundary (PL DOG) specified. (See Figure 4-1, stationary screen.)<br />

The threat boundary may also be the designated RHO line. The reconnaissance squadron includes A2C<br />

measures to facilitate aerial reconnaissance within or beyond the troop’s AO.<br />

4-37. Based on the squadron or protected force guidance, the DRT commander develops his plan during<br />

TLP, considering the following:<br />

Friendly force considerations, including:<br />

Protected force’s mission, commander’s intent, and CCIR.<br />

Mission of adjacent forces and coordination points for them.<br />

Higher commander’s reconnaissance focus, tempo, engagement criteria, and security<br />

destruction and displacement criteria.<br />

Missions of other reconnaissance elements, such as a Prophet operating within the troop<br />

AO or in support of the troop, but not under troop control.<br />

Capabilities and limitations of other reconnaissance elements that are attached to or<br />

controlled by the troop.<br />

Terrain and weather considerations, including effects on effective ranges of weapon systems,<br />

laser designators, and NVDs.<br />

Effects on SUASs and other aviation assets for reconnaissance, transport, resupply, fires, or<br />

CASEVAC/MEDEVAC.<br />

Effects on cross-country mobility.<br />

The threat situation, including:<br />

Type and capabilities of likely threat weapon systems.<br />

Special equipment, such as ground sensor systems, signal intercept, and surveillance radar.<br />

Squadron guidance on threat COAs, including a SITEMP that depicts composition,<br />

dispositions, and likely axis of advance.<br />
