Chapter 5
Conducting compliance monitoring.
Conduct crowd control.
Negotiating and conducting leader engagements.
Establishing a reserve or QRF. For this mission the DRT should be augmented with tactical
vehicles or helicopter support.
COMPANY INTELLIGENCE SUPPORT TEAMS
5-24. Company intelligence support teams (COIST) are formed at the company, troop, or battery level.
They are generally formed during stability and counterinsurgency operations to perform intelligence tasks
as directed by the commander, usually during stability operations. The COIST accomplishes many
intelligence tasks to support the DRT commander. These tasks include:
Answering the squadron commander’s information requirements.
Conducting IPB.
Tracking SIGACTs.
Assisting with site exploitation and database information.
Supporting HUMINT-related operations such as key leader engagements and detainee
operations.
Assisting with biometric tools, using automated information collection and analysis tools.
Supporting troop targeting with detailed intelligence products.
5-25. The COIST should develop a mission intelligence briefing plan. The plan should sensitize Soldiers to
specific information and reporting requirements, information gaps, current events in the area of
responsibility, and unique mission requirements. The COIST can use the same form for both prebriefing
and debriefing the patrol. The information the patrol is looking for can be put on the sheet prior to leaving
on the mission and the remainder of the data placed on the sheet during or after the mission is complete.
OTHER STABILITY MISSIONS
5-26. The DRT conducts economy of force within its capabilities. Its size and combat power limits its
effectiveness against a strong and well-organized enemy. Its light foot prints and ability to traverse almost
any terrain gives the DRT an advantage in broken and restricted terrain. The following are other missions
that the DRT conducts during stability operations (see FM 3-21.10 and FM 3-20.971 for additional
information on other DRT stability missions):
An attack (may require augmentation based on METT-TC).
A squadron movement to contact (normally a search and attack or cordon and search may
require augmentation).
Defending an AO.
Defending a perimeter.
