<strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>/Nunavut <strong>Command</strong> of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong><br />

RILEY, Joseph Paul SPECIAL DUTY AREA & PEACETIME<br />

Joseph was born in Montreal, QC but grew up in Tracadie, NS. He joined the Army in Halifax in<br />

1955 and was: posted to the 2 nd <strong>Canadian</strong> Guards, serving in Germany and Cyprus; an instructor to<br />

the <strong>Canadian</strong> Guards in 1966 as M/Cpl.; with the 2 nd Battalion in 1968 as a Sgt.; rebadged in 1970 to<br />

the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Regiment; promoted to Warrant Officer in 1974; instructed in Cornwallis, NS in<br />

1975; promoted to Master W/O in 1977; posted to C.F.B. Borden in 1982. In 1983, Chief W/O was<br />

appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Battle School at C.F.B. Petawawa then<br />

returned to the Battalion in 1985. He served with distinction during a peacekeeping tour in Cyprus in<br />

1986. In July 1987, he was appointed Academy C.W.O. of the <strong>Canadian</strong> Forces Leadership Academy<br />

C.F.B., Camp Borden. Joseph retired from the Armed Forces in 1993 after 38 years of service.<br />

RINGER, Gilbert R. “Bob” PEACETIME<br />

Bob was born in 1943 in Digby, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>. He joined the RCMP and took his<br />

basic training at Regina, Saskatchewan. He then served for 35 years at the following:<br />

St. John’s, Placentia, Harbour Grace, Bell Island, NL; Ottawa, ON; Sackville and<br />

Edmundston, NB; and Glace Bay and Halifax, NS. Bob has been a member of<br />

Clementsport <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #122 for one year.<br />

ROBERTS, Ralph KOREA<br />

Ralph was born in Windsor, Ontario. He joined the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Navy and<br />

served during the Korean War and retired from the Navy after a 23-year career as<br />

a Service Officer for which he was awarded many awards and medals. Ralph<br />

raised 5 children with his wife, Kathleen Samson, and was a <strong>Legion</strong> member for<br />

over 50 years before he passed away on February 2, 2012 in Antigonish, <strong>Nova</strong><br />

<strong>Scotia</strong>.<br />

RITCEY, Laurence A. PEACETIME<br />

Laurence was born in 1942 in Riverport, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>. He joined the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong><br />

Navy in 1963 and took his basic training at Chilliwack, BC. He served in Germany,<br />

Gagetown, Shearwater and with the Diving Unit HMCS Cormorant. Laurence has<br />

been a member of Clementsport <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #122 for 20 years.<br />
