<strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>/Nunavut <strong>Command</strong> of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong><br />

BOUDREAU, John Raymond WWII<br />

John was born in Boudreauville, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> on May 9, 1918. He joined the <strong>Royal</strong><br />

<strong>Canadian</strong> Naval Volunteer Reserve and served as an Able Seaman on HMCS<br />

Spikenard which was torpedoed on February 10, 1942. John was killed in action. He<br />

was awarded the War Medal 1939-45, the <strong>Canadian</strong> Volunteer Service Medal and<br />

Bar, the Atlantic Star, and the 1939-45 Star.<br />

BOUDREAU, Nathan Isaac SPECIAL DUTY AREA & AFGHANISTAN<br />

Nathan was born in Antigonish, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> on March 10, 1983. He joined the<br />

<strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Army in November 2000 in Sydney, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>. Nathan is in the<br />

Brigade Troops and served in Canada and Afghanistan. He is presently in Gagetown,<br />

New Brunswick and is waiting to be posted to England. Nathan married Jennifer on<br />

August 19, 2005 and they have two daughters. He is Captain in SUAV (small<br />

unmanned air vehicle). Nathan was awarded the GCS Southwest Asia.<br />

BOWIE, Simon Elsworth WWII<br />

Simon was born on September 27, 1914 to George Bowie and Melina Bonvie of<br />

Tracadie, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>. He enlisted in the Army on May 25, 1942 in New Glasgow.<br />

Corporal Bowie served on the home front at Fort Connaught and Citadel Hill in<br />

Halifax doing guard duty. Honourably discharged on April 18, 1946 in Halifax, he<br />

married Gertie Tate of Grosvenor where they made their home and raised twelve<br />

daughters and four sons. At present, he lives in the R. K. MacDonald Guest Home.<br />

Four of his brothers also served in World War II. Simon was awarded the <strong>Canadian</strong><br />

Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45.<br />

BOWEN, Thomas Alphonse WWII<br />

Thomas was born in Rocky Bay, Cape Breton on May 11, 1918. He joined the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Navy on<br />

November 21, 1940. He served in Canada, England, France, and Africa and was discharged as an Able Seaman<br />

on August 2, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the <strong>Canadian</strong> Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the<br />

Atlantic Star, and the Africa Star. He then worked for W. A. MacDonald Engineering Dry Dock in Sydney, NS,<br />

fished with his brother in Rocky Bay, sailed the Great Lakes in Ontario from 1957 to 1965, worked as a<br />

lighthouse attendant and a guard at the Arichat jail, and on a mink ranch before retiring. Alphonse raised five<br />

children with his wife, Mary Selena Doyle. He was a member of the Arichat <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #150 for 27 years,<br />

served on various committees and was Past 1 st President. Alfonse died on November 29, 1989 at 71.<br />
