LAMBE, John Clement PEACETIME<br />

John was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1949. He joined the <strong>Canadian</strong> Army<br />

and took his training at CFB Gagetown. He served as a Medic for 42 years on many<br />

bases across Canada and also served with the Black Watch. John has been a member<br />

of Clementsport <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #122 for one year.<br />

LANDRY, Joseph Frank WWII<br />

Joseph was born in Little Anse in Cape Breton, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> on January 5, 1922. He<br />

joined the Merchant Navy late in 1941 and signed on the oil tanker M. V. Montrolite on<br />

January 12, 1942. The Montrolite was torpedoed northeast of Bermuda on February 4,<br />

1942 and sank within 5 minutes. Frank was one of 25 survivors in a life raft for 65 hours<br />

before being rescued. He was a fireman onboard the Montrolite. Frank then joined the<br />

Navy and served his country till he was discharged after the war. He was then employed<br />

as an engineer on the Imperial oil tankers until his retirement. He married Orine in 1952<br />

and they had two daughters. He passed away on October 9, 2008.<br />

LANDRY, Wilfred William WWII<br />

Wilfred was born in Little Anse, Cape Breton on April 10, 1920. He joined the<br />

Merchant Navy in 1941 and signed on the oil tanker M. V. Montrolite on January 12,<br />

1942. On February 4, 1942, the Montrolite was torpedoed and within 5 minutes,<br />

had sunk. He was a fireman on board and was one of 25 survivors who were rescued<br />

from a life craft 65 hours later. After this experience, Wilfred joined the <strong>Royal</strong><br />

<strong>Canadian</strong> Army and served until he was discharged after the war. He then worked<br />

as a store keeper at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax until he retired. Wilfred never<br />

married and he passed away on February 16, 2002.<br />

LANDRY, Joseph Lawrence WWII<br />

Joseph was born in Little Anse, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> on July 14, 1917. He joined the Merchant<br />

Navy in the fall of 1941 and on January 12, 1942, signed on the M. V. Montrolite which<br />

was torpedoed and sank northeast of Bermuda on the evening of February 4, 1942.<br />

Lawrence was a storekeeper on board and was one of 25 survivors who were in a life raft<br />

for 65 hours before being rescued. He then joined the Navy and served his country till he<br />

was discharged after the war. Lawrence married Catharine Deveau of Chéticamp, Cape<br />

Breton, and they had four children. Lawrence worked at the Halifax shipyard and dry dock<br />

as an engineer until his retirement. He passed away on March 23, 1984 at the age of 67.<br />
