<strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>/Nunavut <strong>Command</strong> of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong><br />
DAVID, Albany Joseph WWII<br />
Albany was born on May 7, 1920 in West Arichat, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>. On December 4,<br />
1941, he joined the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Army in New Glasgow, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> at the age<br />
of 21 then went to Aldershot, serving as a Private during World War II. He received<br />
the War Medal 1939-45 and was discharged from the Forces on March 31, 1942. He<br />
then worked in a fish plant in Surrey, Prince Edward Island then married Kathleen<br />
Wrywas of Pleasant Bay, NS in 1948. They raised one daughter. Albany joined the<br />
Isle Madame <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #150 on July 7, 2008 and he passed away on February<br />
6, 2011 at the age of 90. He was pre deceased by his wife, Kathleen.<br />

DAVID, Bernard Joseph “Bernie” WWII<br />
Bernie was born in Petit de Grat, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> in 1912. He joined the Merchant Navy<br />
in 1941 and was a deckhand on HMCS Wataru which sailed the Atlantic and along<br />
the US coast, including St. Pierre and Newfoundland. He was awarded the War<br />
Medal 1939-45, and the <strong>Canadian</strong> Volunteer Service Medal with Bar and Clasp.<br />
Bernie was discharged in February 1945 and married Dolores Samson in 1948. They<br />
raised five children. He worked in Petit de Grat in fish traps then at Booth’s Fisheries<br />
until he retired. Bernie passed away on March 18, 2004.<br />

DeWILDE, Dennis WWII<br />
Dennis was born in Belgium. He joined the Free Belgium Army and served in<br />
Europe during World War II.<br />

DeCOSTE, Clifford Joseph WWII<br />
Clifford was born in Arichat, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> on December 14, 1922. He enlisted in<br />
the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Army in July 1940 and served as a Lance Corporal in England,<br />
Europe, and Italy. His brother, Jeffrey, served in the <strong>Canadian</strong> Navy. Clifford was an<br />
infantry soldier at the time of his medical discharge in June 1944. He was awarded<br />
the War Metal 1939-45, the <strong>Canadian</strong> Volunteer Service Medal and Bar, the 1939-<br />
45 Star, the Italy Star, and the Defence Medal for England. After his discharge,<br />
Clifford ran the local liquor store for several years. He was a member of Arichat<br />
<strong>Legion</strong> Branch #150 for 36 years before he passed away on June 23, 1986.<br />
