<strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong>/Nunavut <strong>Command</strong> of The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> <strong>Legion</strong><br />
DUBOIS, Bernie PEACETIME<br />
Bernie was born in Verdun, QC on April 1, 1931. He joined the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong><br />
Navy on December 2, 1948 in Montréal and served as a weapons expert on HMCS<br />
Ontario, La Hulloise, Magnificent, Algonquin, Athabaskan, Nootka, Nipigon, and<br />
Bonaventure. Bernie retired on December 4, 1973 with the rank of Chief Petty<br />
Officer. He and his wife had three sons and one daughter. Bernie was a Life Member<br />
of Centennial <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #160 before he passed away in 2009.<br />

DUNFIELD, Leonard Charles “Len” WWII<br />
Len was born in Halifax, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> on November 16, 1921. He joined the <strong>Royal</strong><br />
<strong>Canadian</strong> Air Force on September 18, 1942, served in Newfoundland, and was<br />
honourably discharged on November 30, 1945. He was awarded the Defence Medal,<br />
the <strong>Canadian</strong> Volunteer Service Medal, and the War Medal 1939-45. Len lived and<br />
worked in Falmouth and Windsor, NS and retired as postmaster of Falmouth in 1986.<br />
He was a member of Windsor <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #009 for 37 years and was a Charter<br />
member of the Lions Club in Wolfville, NS. Len passed away on August 22, 2011<br />
at the age of 89.<br />

DURLING, Robert Glenn WWII<br />
Robert was born in Lawrencetown, NS on June 29, 1923. He joined the Navy on July<br />
15, 1941 and did his basic training in Esquimalt, BC. He enlisted in the <strong>Royal</strong><br />
<strong>Canadian</strong> Navy as an Ordinary Seaman, became an Able Seaman and was<br />
discharged as a Leading Seaman after 7 years. He was stationed in St. John’s,<br />
Newfoundland and served on a Corvette that escorted troop ships to England. He<br />
married Catherine K. Baxter in 1950 with whom he raised three children. Robert was<br />
a member of Lawrencetown <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #112 for 23 years. He retired from the<br />
Department of Fisheries and Oceans in 1986 and died on November 14, 1989.<br />

DURLING, G. David WWII<br />
David was born in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County on April 11, 1925. He lived in<br />
Yarmouth, <strong>Nova</strong> <strong>Scotia</strong> in his early childhood then moved to Halifax in 1941. In<br />
April 1943, he joined the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Canadian</strong> Air Force and after basic training,<br />
graduated as a Flying Officer at the age of 19. In April of 1944, he went to England<br />
as an Air Gunner and was killed in action on September 8, 1944.<br />
