Data Synthesis<br />

The purpose of this research study was to identify issues, trends, and guiding principles in<br />

litigation pursued over adverse employment actions against school administrators. The following<br />

tables will truncate essential information, categorize similar cases, and reveal data that are<br />

beneficial to the practicing school administrator.<br />

During the course of the research, four distinct sections of data emerged. The first section<br />

consists of counts of actions and effects brought about from the litigation and other identifying<br />

information. Tables 1-16 are representations of this data gathered during the case briefing<br />

process and classified as “Identifying Information.” The second section reflects one of the<br />

essential veins of data that revealed itself during the data reduction process. This section, Tables<br />

17-29, is codified as “School Actions,” because it includes items such as reduction in force,<br />

which are actions initiated by school systems that school administrators have consistently<br />

pointed to as one of the issues of contention regarding their adverse employment action. The<br />

third section of data, Tables 30-46, surrounds actions that school systems identify as being issues<br />

that have negatively impacted the employee to the point that employment action was warranted.<br />

This section is marked as “Employee Actions.” Finally, the fourth section of data (Tables 47-66)<br />

identifies remedies or protections that school administrators consistently cite as protection<br />

against adverse employment actions. This final section is classified as “Employee Protections.”<br />

Tables 1-16 will display the primary identification data collected by the researcher during<br />

the case briefing process. These data were sorted and arranged and accompanied by a basic<br />
