HEALTH CARE IN THE CONTEXT OF
ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL INFLUENCES:
REVIEW OF RAB PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL DEVELOPMENT
It is expected that the development of an institution is partially determined
and related to the economic and political conditions that may influence
the quality standards of treatment and care for patients. Considering
bioethical context of economic and political influences on health care, it is
not possible to avoid the accentuation of historical, national and local circumstances
in which the Rab Psychiatric Hospital was built and developed
and, also, political and economic conditions which were put as a challenge
in front of a management department of the Hospital. These leading structures
of the Hospital had throughout the history different ways of dealing
with the difficulties and advantages which have had a great influence on
sustainable development and existence of this institution.
The Rab Psychiatric Hospital is nowadays a respectable institution and
teaching base for two Croatian universities. It has an organizational structure
of 250 employees which suits to modern medical-psychiatric standards
and it aspires to contemporary “mind-body wellness” for those who
are in many ways the most vulnerable members of the society – people
with mental disorders. The quality of work can be defined with series of
parameters which will be discussed in the presentation.
