makes us forget that the matter of bioethics is the matter of the most
elementary physical and mental health. However, in examining the modern
sport, it is easy to notice the modern man’s relationship towards the body,
maybe easier than in any other social phenomenon. Professional athlete’s
biography in the biological sense is reduced to a chronicle of self-destruction
of his body and psyche.
Today we witness a more or less established scientific consensus about
the mind–body inseparability, and regardless of their possible theological
or philosophical separations, in the biological sense there exists only the
body as such. Without falling into a vulgar materialism, the body should
be perceived as a unique part of the natural whole in which it exists, or as
Ljubodrag Duci Simonović, former athlete and philosopher, stated – “the
body is the immediate human nature”. These are important presuppositions
for understanding the basic bioethical issues, including those of the sport.
