HPV VACCINE? NO, THANK YOU!
The first association connected with the word “human papillomavirus”
is the cancer of the uterine cervix. Indeed, HPV is considered a cause of
this type of carcinoma. However, only a small number of infected women
will develop the disease – those who are affected by particular strains of
viruses and those in whom the infection is chronic, among which also only
a minority. Cancer develops in the period of few decades, during which it
is identifiable and curable by the use of simple diagnostic and therapeutic
techniques. For those who practice faithfulness and protection in the sexual
life, HPV is irrelevant, since it is a sexually transmitted virus.
Nevertheless, along with other strategies for the cervical cancer prevention,
HPV vaccine is offered to the population. Immunization is recommended
to all the girls (and boys) before puberty; in some countries it has
already become compulsory. Apart from a dubious need to vaccinate, additional
problem is the fact that the efficiency of the vaccine has not been
established – whether it prevents a clinically relevant cancer and prolongs
life, has not been proved. Besides, it is one of the vaccines with the most
side-effects reported and at the same time one of the most expensive. Will
the powerful corporate, medico-professional and political structure that
promotes “HPV project” be strong enough to impose this absurd medical
intervention to the aware and already doubtful people?
TKO SE BOJI BABE JAGE?
O starenju iz rodne perspektive
Unatoč činjenici da je u većini europskih društava (pa tako i u hrvatskom
društvu) očit porast populacije starije dobi, starenje i subjektivna
iskustva starih ljudi, posebno starih žena, ostaju nevidljiva. Starost se u
kulturi fasciniranoj mladošću promatra na stereotipne načine, s mnogo
predrasuda, tabua i strahova koji rezultiraju nizom negativnih predodžbi i
diskriminacijskih praksi. U tom se kontekstu postavljaju neka nezaobilaz-
