that she doesn’t have to harm it, but that removing the heart gives it power... and the spellcaster
power over the one the heart belongs to. Rumplestiltskin removes it and then gives it to Regina
and invites her to crush the heart and kill the unicorn. She can’t, and Rumplestiltskin tells her
to ask herself what’s holding her back.
Later, Regina takes Rumplestiltskin’s advice and goes to the mausoleum where she has placed
Daniel, dead but preserved by a spell.
Regina admits that she couldn’t let go of Daniel and Archie warns her that if she can’t let go
of her past then she is doomed to have it haunt her forever. Regina storms off, angry, and drives
home in the storm. As she stops at an intersection, she sees a man watching her from the corner:
Daniel. There’s a flash of lightning and Daniel disappears.
The next morning, David takes Henry to the stables and explains that he’s going to train him
how to ride a horse as part of his training to become a knight. Henry is worried about Emma and
Mary Margaret and David that he’s worried about them as well. He then shows Henry the horse
that he has picked for him and explains that he will need to learn how to care for it before he
learns to ride. David explains that when Henry is ready to ride, the horse will tell him and leaves
his grandson to start taking care of the steed.
Regina goes to the mausoleum and discovers that Daniels’ body has disappeared.
Regina arrives for her next lesson and asks if she’s ready to begin, but he asks why she’s really
there. When she says that she wants power, Rumplestiltskin doesn’t believe her and demands the
truth. Regina asks if magic is powerful enough to bring back the dead and Rumplestiltskin tells
her that she can’t bring her true love back. Jefferson arrives with an item to help Rumplestiltskin
find a way to another world, but admits that he can’t find the slippers he needs because they
are in a land without magic. As Jefferson collects his reward, Rumplestiltskin dismisses Regina,
saying that she will never find her future as long as she lives in the past. Jefferson, overhearing,
says that he knows of a wizard in another land that can bring back the dead. He offers to bring
the wizard over but says that he wants Regina acting to give him a royal passport to travel the
lands as payment. She agrees to the deal and Jefferson tells her that if the wizard can’t bring
back the dead then no one can.
Mulan tells Emma and Mary Margaret that Hook came to the sanctuary claiming to be a
blacksmith who lost his hand in an ogre attack.
Emma thinks that it is too convenient that Hook just happened to survive by hiding under the
corpses as he claimed. When Hook maintains his claim, Emma tells him that she can tell when
people are telling the truth. He offers to guide them through the land but Emma puts a knife to
his throat and orders him to tell them what he’s really up to.
Regina goes to the hospital and looks for Dr. Whale in the sub-basement.
Jefferson meets Regina at the castle and explains that he is bringing the wizard to their land,
and that he is unfamiliar with their world. In the garden, the wizard (Whale) is sketching a flower.
Jefferson introduces him and the man says that he prefers to be known as a doctor, not a wizard.
Regina takes Whale to the mausoleum and he examines Daniel. Once he takes a blood sample,
Whale tells Regina that Daniel is in perfect condition for resurrection, but he needs a strong
heart. He warns Regina that there is no such heart in his world and that he needs an enchanted
heart that has been removed from its owner. Jefferson explains how Regina can take hearts from
living people but Regina refuses to use her magic for evil. Whale complains that they’re wasting
their time, but Regina gets an idea and says that she knows where she can find a heart without
killing someone.
Regina enters Whale’s laboratory and discovers that someone has torn it apart. She finds a
severed arm on one examination table and Whale beneath another, his arm ripped off. Regina
asks the semi-conscious Whale if he took one of her hearts and used it to bring Daniel back, but
Whale warns her that what he brought back was a monster, not Daniel.
Regina takes Jefferson and Whale to her mother’s quarters and shows them the secret passage
to the chamber where Cora kept all of the hearts that she took from others. As they go down,
Regina admits that she has no idea how many hearts that her mother took over the years. Whale
chooses one and smiles in satisfaction, telling the others that it’s perfect.
David gets word of the attack on Whale and goes to the hospital. He finds Regina outside of
Whale’s room and demands to know what happened. She tells him that Daniel is back and that
Whale brought him back using something more powerful than magic, using a stolen heart. David
