moisture and temperature, yellow rust spores began to be seen, but as<br />

temperatures <strong>in</strong>creased rust spread slowed. Leaf rust was seen extensively<br />

In Menemen <strong>in</strong> 2004, where <strong>the</strong> long-term mean annual precipitation is<br />

544 mm, total ra<strong>in</strong>fall accrued was about 250 mm. Due to <strong>the</strong> lack <strong>of</strong> moisture<br />

and dew, especially <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> period when yellow rust appears, yellow rust<br />

<strong>in</strong>fection did not take place. Because climatic conditions were not appropriate,<br />

leaf rust, which was seen extensively <strong>in</strong> previous years, did not develop<br />

sufficiently (Table 2).<br />
