COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES<br />
INPE 4007. SUMMER PRACTICUM. Three<br />
credit hours. Six weeks duration. Prerequisites: A<br />
minimum of ten credit hours in Animal Industry<br />
courses.<br />
The work will consist of practical experience in<br />
livestock farming or milk plant practices, covering<br />
a period of six weeks during the Summer at the end<br />
of the junior year. The student will be under the<br />
supervision of the owner or manager of the farm or<br />
plant, and of a member of the animal industry staff.<br />
INPE 4008. MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS.<br />
Three credit hours. Two hours of lecture and one<br />
three-hour laboratory per week. Prerequisite:<br />
INPE 3005.<br />
A general course covering the composition and<br />
properties of milk, and the manufacture of dairy<br />
products.<br />
INPE 4009. MARKET MILK. Three credit hours.<br />
Two hours of lecture and one three-hour laboratory<br />
per week. Prerequisite: INPE 4008.<br />
Processing and distribution of market milk and<br />
related products. Field trips required.<br />
INPE 4010. ANIMAL FEEDING AND<br />
NUTRITION. Four credit hours. Three hours of<br />
lecture and one three-hour laboratory per week.<br />
Prerequisite: INPE 3005.<br />
Definitions and general concepts of feeding and<br />
nutrition. Relationship between human and animal<br />
nutrition. Anatomy and physiology of the digestive<br />
tract. Nutrient digestion and absorption and<br />
excretion of waste products. Chemical composition<br />
and feed evaluation. The nutrients and their<br />
metabolism. Feedstuffs used in animal rations.<br />
Voluntary feed intake. Feeding standards for<br />
domestic animals. Ration formulation. Applied<br />
aspects of feeding diary cattle, beef cattle, sheep,<br />
goats, horses, poultry, swine, and rabbits.<br />
INPE 4016. BEEKEEPING. Three credit hours.<br />
Two hours of lecture and one three-hour laboratory<br />
per week.<br />
Breeds and behavior of bees, management and<br />
apiculture production techniques. Field trips<br />
required.<br />
INPE 4017. POULTRY PRODUCTION. Three<br />
credit hours. Two hours of lecture and one threehour<br />
laboratory per week. Prerequisite: INPE<br />
3005.<br />
The principles and practices of poultry breeding,<br />
feeding, incubation, brooding, rearing, housing, and<br />
sanitation.<br />
INPE 4018. INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH<br />
IN ANIMAL SCIENCE. Three credit hours.<br />
Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite:<br />
INPE 3005 and (MATE 3172 or its equivalent).<br />
Measure of Central Tendency and Variation.<br />
Construction and interpretation of tables and<br />
graphs. Binomial and normal distribution.<br />
Introduction to methods of domestic animal<br />
experimentation.<br />
INPE 4019. ANIMAL BREEDING. Three credit<br />
hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisite: INPE 3005 and either BIOL 3015 or<br />
BIOL 3300.<br />
The application of genetics to the problems and<br />
methods of livestock’s improvement.<br />
INPE 4020. ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION IN<br />
DOMESTIC ANIMALS. Three credit hours. One<br />
hour of lecture and one six-hour laboratory per<br />
week. Prerequisite: INPE 4006.<br />
Theory and intensive practice of artificial<br />
insemination in domestic animals.<br />
INPE 4025. DAIRY CATTLE AND MILK<br />
PRODUCTION. Three credit hours. Two hours of<br />
lecture and one three-hour laboratory per week.<br />
Prerequisite: INPE 3005.<br />
A study of the various phases of dairy cattle and<br />
milk production.<br />
INPE 4026-4027. SPECIAL PROBLEMS. One to<br />
three credit hours each semester. One to three<br />
research periods per week per semester.<br />
Prerequisite: Authorization of the Director of the<br />
Department.<br />
Research problems in livestock feeding and<br />
nutrition, poultry feeding and nutrition, livestock<br />
management, dairy technology, animal breeding,<br />
and animal diseases.<br />
