Articulation, rhythm, and intonation of English,<br />

including its phonetic description, transcription,<br />

and oral practice in the laboratory.<br />

INGL 3231. ENGLISH EXPOSITORY<br />

WRITING. Three credit hours. Three hours of<br />

lecture per week. Prerequisite: INGL 3202 or<br />

INGL 3104 or INGL 3212.<br />

Practice in the various forms of expository writing.<br />

Detailed class criticism of diction, phrasing, and<br />

sentence structure. A research paper will be<br />

required.<br />

INGL 3236. TECHNICAL REPORT WRITING.<br />

Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />

week. Prerequisite: INGL 3202 or INGL 3104 or<br />

INGL 3212.<br />

Supervised writing, with emphasis on clearness,<br />

correctness, conciseness, completeness, and<br />

appropriate tone; practice in organizing<br />

paragraphing, sentence structure, word choice,<br />

grammar, and punctuation.<br />

INGL 3238. CREATIVE WRITING. Three credit<br />

hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />

Prerequisite: (INGL 3202 or INGL 3104 or INGL<br />

3212) and authorization of the Director of the<br />

Department.<br />

Theory and practice in the writing of fiction,<br />

poetry, and drama. Detailed class criticism of<br />

students' works.<br />

INGL 3250. PUBLIC SPEAKING. Three credit<br />

hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />

Prerequisite: INGL 3202 or INGL 3212 or INGL<br />

3104.<br />

Principles and practice of oral presentations, their<br />

preparation, composition, and delivery, including<br />

formal, informal, and impromptu speech.<br />

INGL 3268. WRITING FOR THE<br />

COMMUNICATIONS MEDIA. Three credit<br />

INGL 3300. STUDIES IN LITERATURE AND<br />

Major British writers of the present century with<br />

particular attention to the development of prose,<br />

fiction and modern cultural attitudes.<br />

novelists from the eighteenth century to the present.<br />

INGL 3317. THE NOVEL IN AMERICAN<br />

Discussion of the major American novelists of the<br />

nineteenth and twentieth centuries.<br />

INGL 3318. LITERATURE OF THE ENGLISH-<br />

SPEAKING CARIBBEAN. Three credit hours.<br />

Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite:<br />

INGL 3202 or INGL 3104 or INGL 3212.<br />

Caribbean novelists, short story writers, poets, and<br />

playwrights of the 20th century who write in<br />
