Analysis of the most important methods used in the<br />
study of literary texts, from rhetoric’s to<br />
structuralism, with emphasis on the techniques used<br />
in comparative literature.<br />

Critical analysis of authors, movements, genres, or<br />
interdisciplinary topics in comparative literature.<br />

COMPARATIVE LITERATURE II. One to three<br />

MUSI 3135. MUSIC APPRECIATION. Three<br />
credit hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Music as a source of aesthetic pleasure, with<br />
particular emphasis on its human, philosophical and<br />
historical aspects; formal elements and their<br />
constitutions; study of the musical forms of the<br />
fugue, sonata, concerto and symphony, and of the<br />
principal tendencies in music.<br />
MUSI 3161-3162. HISTORY OF MUSIC. Three<br />
credit hours per semester. Three hours of lecture<br />
per week each semester.<br />
The study of musical systems as a characteristic of<br />
great cultures; Western music from its beginning to<br />
the present; formal stylistic and technical<br />
development of music and its relation to other<br />

Study of the most significant operatic works of<br />
different periods, especially those which are in<br />

An introduction to basic musical theory including;<br />
musical notation, basic harmony, auditory<br />
exercises, rhythmic and melodic dictation, analysis<br />
of minor forms, and melodic composition.<br />
MUSI 3172. FUNDAMENTALS OF MUSIC II.<br />
Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />
week. Prerequisite: MUSI 3171.<br />
An introduction to musical theory including:<br />
chromatic harmony, simple composition for four<br />
voices and melodic composition, auditory<br />
exercises, and an introduction to the larger musical<br />
forms.<br />
