CIPO 3065. INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS.<br />
Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />
week. Prerequisite: CIPO 3011.<br />
The nature of international relations; nationalism,<br />
militarism, armaments, history of international<br />
relations; foreign policies, functions of democracy;<br />
international organizations.<br />
CIPO 3095. MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT.<br />
Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />
week.<br />
Historical and legal background, organization, and<br />
functions of the municipal system. Emphasis on<br />
the municipal governments of Puerto Rico.<br />
CIPO 3175. INTRODUCTION TO LAW. Three<br />
credit hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Principal theories and rules in Law including those<br />
of the United States and Puerto Rico. History of<br />
Law and the most common research methods in the<br />
field.<br />
CIPO 4005. CONSTITUTIONAL LAW. Three<br />
credit hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisites: CIPO 3011.<br />
The functions of the Supreme Court of the United<br />
States of America; case studies of constitutional<br />
decisions, including cases involving constitutional<br />
relations between Puerto Rico and the United States<br />
of America.<br />
CIPO 4015. COMPARATIVE GOVERNMENT<br />
AND POLITICS. Three credit hours. Three hours<br />
of lecture per week. Prerequisite: CIPO 3011.<br />
A study of various major political systems;<br />
discussion of current theoretical approaches to<br />
comparative political analysis. Designed to give<br />
the student a general picture of the political process<br />
and governmental institutions.<br />
CIPO 4016. GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS<br />
OF THE MIDDLE EAST. Three credit hours.<br />
Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Historical and analytical study of the constitutional<br />
and political development of the countries of the<br />
Middle East. Includes Arab and non-Arab states<br />
from Iran and Pakistan in the east, to the countries<br />
of North Africa.<br />
CIPO 4025. PUBLIC OPINION. Three credit<br />
hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisite: CIPO 3011.<br />
The nature of public opinion and propaganda in<br />
modern society, and the study of its determinants;<br />
such as group membership, mass media, and others.<br />
CIPO 4035. POLITICAL PARTIES. Three credit<br />
hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisite: CIPO 3011.<br />
The nature and functions of political parties:<br />
origin, development, structure, economics and<br />
composition, internal management and controls; the<br />
relation of political parties and pressure groups to<br />
legislation and administration.<br />
CIPO 4036. GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS<br />
OF COMMUNIST STATES. Three credit hours.<br />
Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Development of governmental and political<br />
institutions of communist states; the structure and<br />
processes of these institutions, specially in the<br />
Soviet Union and China.<br />
CIPO 4045. ELEMENTS OF PUBLIC<br />
ADMINISTRATION. Three credit hours. Three<br />
hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite: CIPO 3035<br />
or CIPO 3025.<br />
The role of public administration in modern<br />
society; principles of organization, budgeting,<br />
management techniques, the public service, and the<br />
control of administration.<br />
CIPO 4046. SPECIAL TOPICS IN POLITICAL<br />
SCIENCE. Three credit hours. Three hours of<br />
lecture per week. Prerequisite: Authorization of<br />
the Director of the Department.<br />
Research of selected topics in Political Science.<br />
CIPO 4051-4052. POLITICAL THEORY. Three<br />
credit hours per semester. Three hours of lecture<br />
per week per semester. Prerequisite: CIPO 3011.<br />
Systematic and critical exposition of political<br />
thought from the beginning of history to modern<br />
times. Political doctrines such as democracy,<br />
liberalism, socialism and communism will be<br />
analyzed. Emphasis will be given to comparison of<br />
different political beliefs, and also to the<br />
relationships between the different theories,<br />
considered as historic heritage which contribute to<br />
contemporary circumstances.<br />
