** Minimum requirements in electives. The Soil<br />
Science major requires a minimum of 18 credits in<br />
elective courses. At least 6 of these credits be in<br />
professional electives chosen with the<br />
authorization of the Director of the Department of<br />
Agronomy and Soils. These should be from the<br />
departmental offerings or related areas. The<br />
remaining 12 credits are free electives.<br />

<strong>Undergraduate</strong> Courses<br />
AGRO 3005. GENERAL SOILS. Three credit<br />
hours. Two hours of lecture and one three-hour<br />
laboratory per week. Prerequisite: QUIM 3002.<br />
A general course dealing with the origin,<br />
classification, and the physical, chemical and<br />
biological properties of mineral and organic soils;<br />
the soils as a medium for plant growth. Special<br />
emphasis will be given to the principal soil<br />
management problems in the tropics.<br />
AGRO 4005. SOIL CONSERVATION. Three<br />
credit hours. Two hours of lecture and one threehour<br />
field or laboratory period per week.<br />
Prerequisite: AGRO 3005.<br />
The use of vegetation, plant barriers, terraces,<br />
mechanical structures, crop rotations, and other<br />
practices for soil and water conservation; forest and<br />
wildlife conservation; conservation problems,<br />
adjustments, and programs in Puerto Rico. Field<br />
trips.<br />
