COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES<br />
ENFE 4995. COOP PRACTICE. Three to six<br />
credit hours. Prerequisite: Authorization of the<br />
Director of the Department.<br />
Practical experience in nursing in cooperation with<br />
private industry or government, jointly supervised<br />
by the Nursing Department, the COOP program<br />
Coordinator, and an official from the cooperating<br />
organization.<br />
ENFE 5005. HEALTH ASSESSMENT. Three<br />
credit hours. Two hours of lecture and one threehour<br />
laboratory per week. Prerequisites: BIOL<br />
3715 and BIOL 3716.<br />
Directed clinical experience towards achieving<br />
competency in conducting health assessment: the<br />
physical examination, the health history, analysis of<br />
the data, and planning for care.<br />

PHYSICAL EDUCATION<br />
The Department of Physical Education of the<br />
University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez was<br />
established in 1972. The curriculum aims to<br />
develop students’ capacity to think logically and<br />
critically through the study of all variables which<br />
affect the human body during physical,<br />
recreational activities and sports.<br />
The Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education is<br />
designed to train and develop knowledgeable<br />
professionals into teachers, coaches and<br />
recreational leaders. Academic offerings include<br />
three well-balanced professional areas of study at<br />
the Bachelor’s Degree level. The academic<br />
programs are: Teaching Physical Education<br />
(1303), Coaching (1302), and Recreation<br />
(1304).<br />
The Teaching of Physical Education Program<br />
(1303) is designed for the student who has the<br />
desire to become a certified Physical Education<br />
teacher with a strong foundation in pedagogy.<br />
The student will also be prepared to continue<br />
graduate studies in different fields related to<br />
physical education and sports.<br />
The Coaching Program (1302) is designed for<br />
a student who has the desire to become a coach<br />
or official in sports or continue graduate studies<br />
in physical education and sports related fields.<br />
The Recreational Program (1304) is designed<br />
for a student who has the desire to become a<br />
provider of recreational services in different<br />
settings. This program focuses on design,<br />
organization, and implementation of diverse<br />
recreational activities. The student will be<br />
prepared to continue graduate studies within the<br />
recreational field.<br />
