AMERICAN LITERATURE. Three credit hours.<br />

Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite:<br />

ESPA 3102.<br />

Study of masterpieces of Spanish American<br />

Literature from the sixteenth century to the<br />

nineteenth century, including examples of Puerto<br />

Rican literature.<br />

ESPA 3022. MASTERPIECES OF SPANISH<br />

AMERICAN LITERATURE. Three credit hours.<br />

Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite:<br />

ESPA 3102.<br />

Study of some of the outstanding works of Spanish<br />

American literature from the nineteenth century to<br />

the present, including examples of Puerto Rican<br />

literature.<br />

ESPA 3101. BASIC COURSE IN SPANISH I.<br />

Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />

week.<br />

Practice in the critical reading of literary texts, the<br />

writing and editing of narrative texts; effective oral<br />

communication in Spanish.<br />

ESPA 3102. BASIC COURSE IN SPANISH II.<br />

Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />

week. Prerequisite: ESPA 3101.<br />

Practice in the critical reading of essays, poetry,<br />

and drama; the writing and editing of expository<br />

texts; effective oral communication in Spanish.<br />

ESPA 3208. COMPOSITION. Three credit hours.<br />

Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite:<br />

ESPA 3102.<br />

Theory of grammar applied to the written language;<br />

comparison among languages of diverse literary<br />

genres; elements of semantic and stylistics.<br />

ESPA 3211-3212. INTRODUCTION TO<br />

SPANISH LITERATURE. Three credit hours per<br />

semester. Three hours of lecture per week each<br />

semester. Prerequisite: ESPA 3102.<br />

Designed primarily to develop the student's literary<br />

appreciation and to initiate him or her in the study<br />

of Spanish literature, through the reading and<br />

explanation of the major literary works in the<br />

Spanish language from its beginning to the present.<br />
