COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION<br />
FINA 4037. INVESTMENTS. Three credit hours.<br />
Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite:<br />
FINA 3006.<br />
Investment, speculation and gambling; various<br />
types of investment media; the test of safety,<br />
income, and marketability in the selection of<br />
securities; diversification and vigilance in<br />
individual portfolio management; techniques for<br />
critical analysis and interpretation of corporate<br />
reports from the investment point of view; the<br />
influence of business cycles on the stock market<br />
and upon investment opportunities.<br />
FINA 4039. PUBLIC SECTOR FINANCES.<br />
Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />
week. Prerequisites: ECON 3021 and ECON<br />
3022.<br />
The study of the allocation, distribution, and<br />
stabilization functions of the modern state and their<br />
effects on the business firm; analysis of public<br />
sector budget policies from the point of view of<br />
income and expenditure, theories of taxation;<br />
public expenditure, budget incidence and effects,<br />
public debt; and their effect on the business<br />
decision-making process.<br />
FINA 4040. CURRENT FINANCIAL TRENDS.<br />
Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />
week. Prerequisites: FINA 4037, FINA 4046 and<br />
FINA 4035.<br />
Current developments in the field of money,<br />
banking, foreign exchange, corporation finance,<br />
investment, and allied fields. Special attention is<br />
given to the developments in Puerto Rico, and to<br />
those developments abroad which affect Puerto<br />
Rico.<br />
FINA 4046. CORPORATE FINANCIAL<br />
POLICY. Three credit hours. Three hours of<br />
lecture per week. Prerequisite: FINA 3006.<br />
Advanced problems in corporate financial<br />
management, emphasizing long-term financing,<br />
dividend policy, internal financing, and<br />
intermediate-term financing; corporate external<br />
growth; mergers and holding companies, failure,<br />
reorganization, and liquidation; the timing of<br />
financial policy and the financial life cycle of the<br />
firm; consolidation.<br />
FINA 4047. INVESTMENT ANALYSIS AND<br />
PORTFOLIO SELECTION. Three credit hours.<br />
Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite:<br />
FINA 4037.<br />
Extended study of the field of investments:<br />
portfolio theory and management, investment<br />
policies, risk handling, and timing of investment<br />
decisions.<br />
FINA 4048. CREDIT AND COLLECTION.<br />
Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />
week. Prerequisite: FINA 3006.<br />
Theory, principles, and practices of credit and<br />
collection management. Investigation and analysis<br />
of credit risk.<br />
FINA 4995. FINANCE INTERNSHIP. One to six<br />
credit hours. Four hours of work per week per<br />
credit during fifteen weeks or its equivalent during<br />
a summer session; can be repeated until a<br />
maximum of six credits are attained. Prerequisites:<br />
FINA 4046, FINA 4035 and authorization of the<br />
Dean of the Faculty.<br />
Work experience in the area of finance, in an office<br />
or business enterprise, under the supervision of a<br />
faculty member in coordination with an immediate<br />
supervisor at the workplace.<br />
INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT<br />
GERE 4007. OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT.<br />
Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture per<br />
week. Prerequisites: MATE 3049 or MATE 3011<br />
and ESTA 3002.<br />
An introduction to the concepts, analytical<br />
techniques and decision-making procedures in the<br />
management of operations. Operation management<br />
problems common to different types of business are<br />
discussed, with consideration given to the<br />
following: location, management of materials,<br />
management of maintenance of facilities, statistical<br />
control of operations, cost and budget control.<br />
GERE 4008. QUANTITATIVE METHODS IN<br />
MANAGEMENT. Three credit hours. Three<br />
hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite: GERE<br />
4007 or GERE 4022.<br />
Development of certain mathematical models and<br />
techniques in operations research applicable to the<br />
analysis of such industrial problems as allocation of<br />
resources, inventory control, scheduling and traffic<br />
flow. Stochastic as well as determinative models<br />
are considered giving emphasis to linear and<br />
dynamic programming and queuing theory.<br />
Attention is centered on the formulation of<br />
problems and the evaluation of methodology.<br />
