INTD 4995. INSTITUTIONAL COOP PLAN.<br />
Zero to nine credit hours. Six to ten weeks during<br />
the summer or twelve to fifteen during the<br />
semester, depending on the required duration of the<br />
internship. Requisites: have completed freshman<br />
year of college before internship begins. Cannot be<br />
a graduating senior. Apply to the government<br />
agency, private enterprise or foundation of his or<br />
her choice, and comply with the requisites<br />
established by it. Be selected by the host<br />
government agency, private enterprise, or<br />
foundation.<br />
Work experience supervised and evaluated by a<br />
faculty member in coordination with a government<br />
agency, private enterprise or foundation, according<br />
to the student's academic background and work<br />
requirements.<br />
ADMISSION OFFICE<br />
The Admission Office fulfills these tasks:<br />
1. Receives and processes all applications<br />
according to eligibility criteria.<br />
2. Provides orientation regarding eligibility<br />
criteria.<br />
3. Compiles, maintains, and updates statistical<br />
data regarding admissions and serves as a<br />
facilitator to the academic community that<br />
utilizes this information for tuition<br />
evaluation and other procedures.<br />
4. Enforces University admission regulations.<br />
5. Serves as consultant to the Administrative<br />
Board regarding admission indexes.<br />
CENTER FOR PROFESSIONAL<br />
ENHANCEMENT<br />
workshop consists of 29 contact hours which<br />
every professor must comply with during the<br />
first year of service. The professor’s<br />
participation is kept on record and it is taken into<br />
consideration for the various personnel actions at<br />
the institutional level.<br />
CPE’s mission is to expose faculty members to<br />
diverse educational strategies in order to promote<br />
academic excellence and ensure high-caliber<br />
student performance. New faculty, permanent<br />
faculty, librarians, counselors, graduate students,<br />
and academic management personnel are all<br />
considered part of the Center’s mission. The<br />
Center covers all aspects of professional<br />
development including teaching, learning,<br />
evaluation, technology, and research. Its goal is<br />
to create a community of well-prepared and<br />
motivated individuals who will contribute to the<br />
academic excellence of our institution.<br />
Services include annual orientation for new<br />
faculty and graduate teaching assistants, annual<br />
training for graduate lab assistants, retreats to<br />
recruit and develop interdisciplinary teams of<br />
resource professors, and seminars for faculty and<br />
graduate students during the academic year. The<br />
seminars, tailored to fit the needs of the<br />
audience, involve theory along with hands-on<br />
activities. Services also include workshops for<br />
academic management, videotaping of classes<br />
for self-evaluation, educational research<br />
activities, and individual assistance for<br />
departments and faculty.<br />

CPE was established in July 1996 with matching<br />
non-recurrent funds from the Central<br />
Administration. The concept for the Center<br />
originated in the Extension and Community<br />
Services Division under the Dean of Academic<br />
Affairs in coordination with the Project Pro-<br />
Excellence in Teaching and Learning (PEEA).<br />
The PEEA initiative arose mainly from a<br />
resolution from the Parents’ Association<br />
presented to <strong>UPRM</strong>’s Chancellor in 1990.<br />
CPE was created in 96-97 by the Administrative<br />
Board, through Certification number 596, which<br />
mandates a teaching preparation workshop for all<br />
faculty personnel dedicated to teaching who<br />
have been hired as of August 1997. The<br />
