EDPE 4139. STUDENT TEACHING OF<br />

CHEMISTRY IN SECONDARY SCHOOL. Six<br />

credits. Twelve hours of practice and three hours<br />

of discussion per week. Prerequisite: EDPE 4135<br />

and permission of the Director of the Division.<br />

The student will be assigned to a public (or private)<br />

secondary school for three hours daily, five days a<br />

week. Four days will be devoted to teaching<br />

Chemistry and participating in other activities that<br />

form part of the work of the teacher. One day<br />

weekly will be spent in a seminar with the college<br />

supervisor to analyze and discuss the problems<br />

students are facing in their student teaching. In this<br />

laboratory students will be helped in their learning<br />

by the cooperating teacher, the school principal and<br />

the college supervisor.<br />

EDPE 4145. THEORY AND METHODOLOGY<br />

IN THE TEACHING OF MATHEMATICS IN<br />

SECONDARY SCHOOL. Three credit hours.<br />

Three hours of lecture and a minimum of fifteen<br />

hours of supervised practice per week.<br />

Prerequisite: Authorization of the Director of the<br />

Department.<br />

Theoretical and practical approach to the teachinglearning<br />

process. All aspects related to the teaching<br />

of Mathematics in secondary school are studied:<br />

planning, innovative education and curriculum<br />

analysis; basic content in this area of specialization;<br />

preparation, adaptation and utilization of resources;<br />

methodology, teaching techniques and strategies;<br />

fundamentals of measurement and evaluation.<br />

These contents are integrated on a practical basis.<br />

All students must complete at least 15 hours of<br />

laboratory experiences in public or private schools.<br />

These experiences will enable students to develop<br />

critical, dynamic and creative attitudes towards<br />

Puerto Rican educational problems.<br />

EDPE 4146. STUDENT TEACHING OF<br />

MATHEMATICS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL.<br />

Six credits. Twelve hours of practice and three<br />

hours of discussion per week. Prerequisite: EDPE<br />

4145 and permission of the Director of the<br />
