Thorough review of grammar, advanced<br />

composition, readings from German authors.<br />

ALEM 4001-4002. GERMAN LITERATURE.<br />

Three credit hours per semester. Three hours of<br />

lecture per week per semester Prerequisite: ALEM<br />

3044.<br />

A study of selected readings in the prose and poetry<br />

of the Nineteenth Century from Novalis to Storm<br />

and Hauptmann.<br />

GREEK<br />

GRIE 3011-3012. ELEMENTARY GREEK.<br />

Three credit hours per semester. Three hours of<br />

lecture per week each semester.<br />

Studies in the fundamentals of classical Greek;<br />

phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary. Readings in<br />

elementary texts.<br />

HUMA 3087. CLASSICS OF ITALIAN<br />

LITERATURE IN TRANSLATION. Three credit<br />

hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />

Study of some of the major works of Italian<br />

literature using Spanish translations. The class will<br />

be held in Spanish.<br />

HUMA 3111. INTRODUCTION TO WESTERN<br />

CULTURE I. Three credit hours. Three hours of<br />

lecture per week.<br />

Critical reflection on the foundational aspects of<br />

Western culture from the diverse perspectives of<br />

humanistic disciplines such as art, history,<br />

literature, philosophy, and religious thought.<br />

Analysis of the most significant original works and<br />

texts from the Greek, Roman, Hebrew and<br />

Medieval cultures and their relation to the present.<br />

HUMA 3112. INTRODUCTION TO WESTERN<br />

CULTURE II. Three credit hours. Three hours of<br />

lecture per week. Prerequisite: HUMA 3111.<br />

Critical reflection on the foundational aspects of<br />

Western culture from the diverse perspectives of<br />

humanistic disciplines such as art, history,<br />

texts from the Renaissance to the present.<br />

HUMA 3115. EUROPEAN STUDY TOUR.<br />

Three credit hours. Fifteen hours of lecture and one<br />

trip of one month duration.<br />

A study of several aspects of European culture<br />

including visits to museums, monuments, and other<br />

places of cultural interest. Formal written work<br />

required.<br />

AND HISTORICAL DOCUMENT: THE OLD<br />

TESTAMENT. Three credit hours. Three hours of<br />

A comparative study of the Old Testament,<br />

considering the fields of history, literature, and<br />

A panoramic view of the life and culture of the<br />

Latin American people from pre-Colombian times<br />

to the present day, with special emphasis on<br />

achievements in art, literature, and philosophy, as<br />

well as inter-American cultural relations.<br />

CULTURE OF SOUTH ASIA. Three credit hours.<br />

Three hours of lecture per week.<br />

Study of the culture of South Asia, especially that<br />

of India with emphasis on its philosophy, religion,<br />

literature and art.<br />
