Probations<br />

Students who, at the end of an academic year, do<br />

not show satisfactory academic progress may<br />

continue studying under probationary status if<br />

they satisfy the following three conditions:<br />

1. Have a GPA not lower than 0.20 below that<br />

required for the completed year of study.<br />

2. Approve during the last two semesters at least<br />

twelve credits, if regular students and six<br />

credits, if part-time students.<br />

3. Accumulate a percentage of credit-hours<br />

according to the following set standards:<br />

Dismissal<br />

Students who do not qualify for probation<br />

according to the requirements stated above will<br />

be dismissed from the University of Puerto Rico,<br />

Mayagüez Campus. The Registrar will notify<br />

the student and pertinent authorities of this<br />

action.<br />

Regular students on probation will carry a course<br />

load of no less than nine and no more than<br />

fifteen-credit hours per semester, and no less<br />

than three nor more than six credit-hours per<br />

semester if part-time students. Students must<br />

also maintain the number of credit-hours<br />

required under probationary status.<br />

After a year on probation, students must:<br />

1. Comply with the minimum GPA<br />

2. Attain the minimum number of credit hours<br />

required for good standing<br />

3. Satisfactorily complete more than half the<br />

credit hours registered during the academic<br />

year<br />

Students who comply with only two of the three<br />

criteria stated above will be placed on probation<br />

for another year. Students who do not comply<br />

with at least two of these criteria in the first year<br />

on probation or those who do not comply with<br />

any criteria in the second year on probation will<br />
